Compress
Make a video or image smaller, with three quality settings and a size shown before you download.
Compress re-encodes a video or image at a lower quality to cut the file size. It shows the export size next to the download button so you can compare before replacing the original.
Pick an Output format, press Compress file, and check the size.
After the export, the preview switches to the result and the panel shows the new file size beside the original. Use Change settings and export again to try another quality, or Replace file to start with another file.
Output quality
The three settings map to a fixed quality value per format. Nothing else changes.
| Format | Smaller file | Balanced | Higher quality |
|---|---|---|---|
| MP4 | H.264 CRF 32 | CRF 26 | CRF 20 |
| WebM | VP9 CRF 42 | CRF 34 | CRF 26 |
| JPEG | Quality 12 | Quality 6 | Quality 2 |
| WebP | Quality 50 | Quality 75 | Quality 90 |
A higher CRF means a smaller file and more visible artifacts. For JPEG the scale runs the same way, where a higher number is a smaller file. WebP runs the other way, where a higher number is better quality.
Output formats
Videos export as MP4 or WebM. Images export as JPEG or WebP. You cannot turn a video into an image here, or an image into a video.
MP4 is H.264 with AAC audio at 128 kbps and the moov atom up front. WebM is VP9 with Opus audio at 96 kbps.
An already optimized file may not get smaller
Re-encoding a file that was already compressed well can produce a larger export. Compare the two sizes before you replace the original.
Limits
- You need to be signed in. It does not spend credits.
- Uploads are capped at 50 MB.
- Up to 5 exports per minute.
- Compression runs on the server, not in your browser. It stops at 4 minutes and 512 MB of output.
- The export drops the source file's metadata.
